The Sainthoods of My Enemy’s Enemies
They hate the one I hate? Then kneel, you fraud:
another saint is born, no brains, no God.
No vetting, no receipts, no shame, no fuss
he loathes your enemy? Then he’s one of us.
They’ll canonize a con man, creep, or clown
for talking trash on someone you’ve marked down.
A liar and a thief, a walking, talking rash
but he flipped your rival the bird? Saint. Pass the sash.
O blessed leech, O patron of the grudge,
O secondhand revenge you will not judge.
You kiss his boots because they kicked your foe,
then call the stench of shared rot holy glow.
You trade one wolf for one that shares your bite
and act surprised the sheep are still not right.
A devil with your enemy in view
is still a devil, just more useful to you.
So toast each snake that hates for hatred’s sake,
each borrowed halo, each convenient fake.
But when the smoke clears, don’t act shocked to see
you’ve built a church of mirrors, and you kneel.
