Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned governors, lawmakers and other members of his Presidential Campaign Council that their political assignments will remain incomplete unless they deliver votes in their respective constituencies in the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu gave the warning on Wednesday during the inauguration of the council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, directing members to take his administration’s achievements, policies and future plans to Nigerians across the country.
He said the campaign council, comprising leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political allies from other parties, must reach voters at the state, local government, ward and polling unit levels.
“This council will carry our vision, our record and our agenda to every Nigerian,” Tinubu said.
Responding to an appeal by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the council’s secretary and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Tinubu maintained that political campaigns would not distract him from governance.
“I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.
Tinubu warned party leaders against resting on their previous political achievements, insisting that they must secure votes before receiving credit for their efforts.
“No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. So until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you,” he said.
He also pledged support for increased women’s representation in legislatures and declared that state police would become a reality.
The council’s Director-General, Abdulaziz Yari, urged members to put aside personal ambitions and focus on securing Tinubu’s re-election, saying the campaign would promote the administration’s record and future programmes.
Kashim Shettima defended the administration’s economic reforms while criticising the policy positions of opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. He urged campaigners to engage opponents respectfully and focus on policy debates rather than personalities.
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike called for measurable results from campaign coordinators and pledged substantial electoral support for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT.
Uzodimma, meanwhile, warned that the election would also test the political relevance of APC governors, lawmakers, local government chairmen and other party officeholders.
He cautioned that the party’s extensive political structures should not be mistaken for guaranteed voter support, stressing that members must persuade Nigerians through meaningful engagement.

“Tinubu will be on the ballot on 16 January 2027, but if we are honest with ourselves, so will we,” Uzodimma said.
He called on party members to resolve disagreements arising from the primaries, secure votes in their respective wards and polling units, and allow Tinubu to focus on implementing his administration’s reforms.
The inauguration also attracted support from governors outside the APC, including Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who backed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda urged campaign officials to address Nigerians’ concerns about the cost of living, insecurity, unemployment and public services while explaining the administration’s achievements.
The council is expected to intensify mobilisation ahead of the campaign flag-off scheduled for October 24 in Kaduna as the APC seeks to consolidate support nationwide.
