Non-academic staff uunionsat The University of Ibadan have staged a peaceful protest over what they described as years of unresolved welfare issues and administrative neglect.
The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) accused the institution’s management of failing to honour agreements, maintain communication, and address pressing staff concerns.
Speaking during the protest, NASU Chairman, Femi Ogunlade, alleged that union members have been denied key entitlements for over three years. He noted that repeated attempts to engage the university authorities have produced no meaningful response.
According to Ogunlade, several formal letters sent to the management were neither acknowledged nor acted upon, a situation the unions described as a deliberate disregard for workers’ welfare.
The unions also raised concerns over the ongoing review of the scheme of service, a framework that governs staff welfare, career progression, and promotion processes. They insisted that union representatives must be actively involved in any review to ensure transparency and fairness.
However, NASU alleged that the university management proceeded with the review without adequate consultation, in violation of established procedures.
