The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is set to organise the 2026 Essay Competition as part of its Inter-Tertiary Institutions’ Environmental Summit 2.0.
Themed “Combating Transboundary Pollution in Lagos State: A City-Level Intervention or National Effort?”, the competition is designed to stimulate critical thinking and proffer innovative solutions to environmental challenges affecting Lagos State and its surrounding communities.
the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Tunde Ajayi stated that this year’s competition is open to undergraduates enrolled in all tertiary institutions, both public and private, within Lagos State.
He emphasised that the competition provides a platform for students to propose practical and innovative solutions that can help mitigate environmental pollution confronting the state both within and from its neighbouring communities.
He added that interested participants are required to complete the registration form through the Google link https://forms.gle/n2DXZtXEofLJ2iuo6 and submit a one-page personal profile demonstrating their experience in the environmental space.
Dr. Ajayi further disclosed that the top 20 shortlisted essays will qualify for the preliminary stage of the competition, while the best 10 essays out of the shortlisted 20 will eventually qualify for an open debate competition at the grand finale, where participants will present and defend their ideas on the same theme.
The Grand finale of the competition, according to him, comes up on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja-Lagos after Submission of entries end on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Prizes for the competition include: a first prize of ₦2,000,000, a second prize of ₦1,000,000, and a third prize of ₦500,000, in addition to consolation prizes for other finalists.
