The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has trained 100 small-scale dairy farmers in Ibadan as part of renewed efforts to improve local milk production and strengthen Nigeria’s dairy value chain.

The ministry confirmed the development in a statement signed by its Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Henrietta Okokon, on Monday.

According to the statement, the training programme was designed to equip participants with practical skills in modern dairy farming, improved animal husbandry, and efficient milk production, collection, and processing methods.

It added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance productivity among smallholder dairy farmers while promoting sustainable practices within the livestock sector.

Speaking on the programme, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idris Ajimobi, said the intervention reflects the government’s push to transform livestock production from the grassroots.

“As we continue to push for self-sufficiency in livestock production, initiatives like this remind us that real transformation begins with empowering farmers at the grassroots,” Ajimobi said.

He noted that the training would help improve productivity, ensure better quality milk production, and support the development of a more sustainable dairy value chain that benefits rural communities and the wider economy.

Ajimobi also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to unlocking the economic potential of the livestock sector through targeted policies, strategic partnerships, and capacity-building programmes for farmers across the country.
