Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has dismissed claims that records on President Bola Tinubu held by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are evidence of criminal conduct.
Omokri made the clarification during a media one-on-one podcast organised by the City Boy Movement (CBM), hosted by Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Digital and New Media, alongside selected journalists.
According to him, the existence of a record on an individual within the FBI’s system does not, by itself, suggest that the person has committed a crime.
Omokri explained that such records could result from different forms of interaction with American institutions, including visa applications and other official processes.
He maintained that records relating to political candidates, including presidential candidates, could also be held by the US agency without implying criminality.
“There is no criminal FBI record against President Bola Tinubu. There’s nothing like that,” Omokri said.
The ambassador-designate further argued that the presence of an FBI file should not automatically be interpreted as proof of wrongdoing, stressing the need to distinguish between administrative records and records connected to criminal investigations.
