A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, identified as Kamoru Omokoye, has been shot dead by suspected cultists at Abijo Bus Stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
Omokoye was reportedly attacked around 9am on Sunday by two men who arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350. The assailants allegedly opened fire, shooting him in the head before fleeing the scene.
A police source in the community said the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The source added that detectives visited the scene after receiving the report and searched the area for possible leads to the suspects.
An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, said Omokoye, also known as Zobo, was sitting at a spot where local gin, popularly called ogogoro, was being sold when the attackers arrived and opened fire. The platform said at least three other people sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, saying the police had commenced investigation into the killing.
The incident comes weeks after a mechanic identified simply as Samson was allegedly killed in the same community after being lured to a location under the pretext of repairing a Mercedes-Benz. He was reportedly taken into a bush and hacked to death.
Police investigations into Omokoye’s killing are ongoing as efforts continue to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
