The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has accused political office holders of prioritising the 2027 general elections over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, warning that continued killings and abductions pose a serious threat to national stability.
The Forum, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, criticised the Federal Government’s response to the security crisis, saying terrorists continued to attack communities, abduct citizens and destroy livelihoods across the country.
The ACF cited reported attacks and abductions in Zamfara, Benue, Katsina, Kogi and Niger states, as well as the abduction of prospective National Youth Service Corps members in Imo State.
It also criticised Tinubu’s Independence Anniversary address, arguing that the security crisis received only a brief mention despite the continued captivity of children abducted in Borno, Kwara and other states.
The Forum expressed particular concern over repeated attacks in Zamfara, where it said five separate incidents were recorded in one day during the period under review, resulting in deaths, abductions and the looting of property. It also highlighted persistent armed attacks and killings in Plateau and Taraba states.
The ACF said the apparent focus of elected officials on the 2027 elections, while citizens remained exposed to attacks and abductions, was both disheartening and frightening.
