The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to restore fuel subsidy, improve security and create employment if elected president in 2027.

Atiku made the pledge on Thursday during a campaign rally in Kebbi State, where he urged residents to support the ADC, insisting that the party was committed to addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.

Addressing supporters at the rally, the former Vice President asked whether Nigerians wanted the return of fuel subsidy, improved security and more employment opportunities.

He maintained that the ADC would prioritise these issues and work towards achieving national prosperity, unity and peace.

Atiku, alongside other party leaders, also criticised some of the projects being highlighted by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, describing them as legacies of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the rally, the Director-General of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Austin Akobundu, commended party supporters in Kebbi for what he described as their resistance to intimidation by the state government.

Akobundu described the 2027 general election as a contest between Nigerians facing hardship and the Federal Government under President Tinubu.

The ADC National Chairman also called on residents to support Atiku for president, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for governor of Kebbi State, and other party candidates.

The rally ended with the presentation of the ADC flag to Malami as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The campaign event came hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the leadership of the Senator David Mark-led faction of the ADC and voided actions taken by its executives, including the process that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.

Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgment in a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the party, who challenged the emergence of the Mark-led leadership.

Atiku rejected the ruling and described it as an attempt to frustrate his political ambition, adding that he would appeal the decision.

The ADC also faulted the judgment and vowed to challenge it through all available legal channels.
