Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted his near-death experience after being struck by a stray bullet during a brand activation outing on March 9, 2026.
The entertainer disclosed this in an interview shared on his YouTube page, describing how what began as a routine workday turned into a life-threatening ordeal shortly after he and his team completed a brand activation and prepared to leave the location.
Broda Shaggi said he heard a loud bang while inside a vehicle, followed by sudden silence among those present. When he touched his hip, he discovered that he was bleeding and realised he had been hit by a stray bullet.
“It was a crazy day, I was unconscious till we got to the hospital. All that was in my mind was just to survive, I didn’t want to die,” he recalled.
The comedian said he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital and later experienced worsening symptoms that prompted medical personnel to consider transferring him to another facility.
He explained that he was sweating, holding his injured leg and desperately hoping to hear reassurance from a doctor that he would survive.
According to him, the medical team at the second hospital responded promptly, taking him into the emergency room and providing the attention he needed. He said the swift response helped restore his confidence that he would survive the ordeal.
However, the seriousness of the injury became more apparent when he realised he could no longer move his leg, raising concerns about the possible long-term effects on his mobility and career.
Broda Shaggi said he was particularly worried about how the injury might affect his comedy performances, which often involve physical movements and routines associated with his popular character.
“I was worried how do I do ‘Oya hit me’ without my leg,” he said, reflecting on the uncertainty he faced after the shooting.
The actor added that although the pain had reduced by the following morning, he began experiencing the emotional impact of the incident, questioning why it had happened to him.
He said he eventually tried to find meaning in the experience by reflecting on his demanding work schedule and the limited time he had taken to rest since 2018.
“Then I started thinking this was intentional for me to rest, because since 2018 I never rest. So I consoled myself with that,” he said.
Following the incident, Broda Shaggi travelled to Dubai for surgery as part of his treatment and recovery. He subsequently regained the ability to walk and stand on his feet, describing the progress as a significant milestone after the injury.
Despite the improvement, the entertainer said he had not fully recovered and was still using crutches for support. He explained that there had been a period when he could neither move properly nor place both feet on the ground without assistance.
He expressed gratitude that the incident had not resulted in more devastating consequences, noting that his recovery remained a gradual process.
“Throughout this period, one thing I keep saying is that I am grateful because it could have been worse. It is a new reality, and I have not fully recovered yet,” he said.
Broda Shaggi’s account highlights the physical and emotional challenges he faced following the shooting, as well as the progress he has made towards regaining his mobility and returning to normal activities.
