Coach Bolarinwa Idris has officially stepped down as Head Coach of Ekiti United following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, bringing an end to a memorable spell with the Ekiti State-owned club.

The highly respected tactician submitted his resignation letter to the club’s secretary, Mr. B.S. Idowu on Wednesday, marking the close of a chapter that saw Ekiti United emerge as one of the most competitive teams in the league.

Under Coach Idris’ leadership, Ekiti United finished third in the fiercely contested NNL season, narrowly missing out on promotion but earning widespread admiration for their consistency, discipline, and strong performances throughout the campaign.

One of the standout achievements of his tenure was the club’s impeccable home record. Coach Idris became the only coach in the just-concluded NNL season to maintain a 100 percent home record, winning all nine home matches and securing the maximum 27 points available on home soil a feat that underlined his tactical acumen and ability to build a formidable team.

In his resignation letter, Coach Idris expressed deep appreciation to the Ekiti State Government for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of football in the state. He also paid tribute to the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Dr. Mrs. Olusola Osetoba, for her unwavering support and commitment throughout the season.

Speaking shortly after his resignation became public, the coach reflected on his time with the club with pride and gratitude.

“This chapter is over with Ekiti United, and I am proud of what we achieved together from the first day to the end of the season. Football is a collective effort, and I must appreciate everyone we worked with to make the successes we recorded possible.”

The former Ekiti United boss also reserved special praise for his technical crew, backroom staff, players, and supporters, acknowledging the crucial role they played in helping the team remain competitive throughout the season.

“The players gave everything for the badge, the staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and the fans stood by us through the highs and lows. I will always be grateful for the support I received.”

Despite growing speculation linking him with several clubs ahead of the new season, Coach Idris remained guarded when asked about his next destination.

“I’m currently in discussions with a few clubs, but nothing concrete has been agreed yet. When the time is right, I will make my next move public. For now, I want to take some time to rest and reflect.”

With over a decade of coaching experience across the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) and Nigeria National League (NNL), Coach Bolarinwa Idris leaves Ekiti United with his reputation significantly enhanced and his stock on the rise.

As one chapter closes, many within Nigerian football believe another exciting opportunity awaits a coach whose work ethic, tactical discipline, and ability to build competitive teams have earned him recognition across the country’s football landscape.

Bolarinwa Idris is a Confederation of African football (CAF) certified coach who formerly worked with Phoenix athletics sports club, Green lock FC and Grass runner FC before joining Ekiti United.
