The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed June 30, 2026, for ruling on an application filed by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, seeking the restoration of his bail and the setting aside of a bench warrant issued against him.
Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the matter after parties adopted their respective processes in support of and against the application.
The court had, on June 16, revoked Sowore’s bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest following his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial over allegations bordering on cybercrime and criminal defamation.
Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged defamatory statements said to have been made against President Bola Tinubu.
According to the prosecution, the AAC chieftain referred to the President as a “criminal” in posts published on his official X and Facebook accounts.
Sowore is now asking the court to restore his bail and vacate the bench warrant issued for his arrest. Justice Umar is expected to deliver a ruling on the application on June 30.
