A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, has sentenced 13 individuals to three months’ imprisonment each for offences related to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Lagos State.
The conviction followed their arraignment by the Lagos State Government on charges bordering on violations of environmental sanitation laws through illegal waste disposal practices.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the defendants were prosecuted as part of the state government’s efforts to enforce environmental regulations and maintain a cleaner environment.
According to Wahab, all 13 defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them before the court.
Following their guilty plea, the court convicted the defendants and sentenced each of them to three months in prison.
The Lagos State Government has continued to intensify enforcement against environmental offenders, warning residents against indiscriminate waste disposal and other practices that undermine sanitation and public health in the state.
