The Defence Headquarters has mourned   the death of a former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), who was abducted and later died in captivity.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, in a statement vowed that the command will intensify ongoing operations aimed at tracking down those responsible and other criminal elements across the country.

Abubakar was kidnapped alongside his wife in May while travelling through Katsina State.

Earlier Katsina state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, disclosed that the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.

The commissioner noted that despite sustained and coordinated efforts by the State Government and various security agencies to secure the General’s freedom, the rescue mission unfortunately ended in tragedy.

The state Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents of commitment to combating banditry and other forms of criminality, stressing that those responsible for the retired General’s abduction and death would be pursued and brought to justice.

The retired major general served the nation with distinction in various capacities, including as spokesman for military formations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
