The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, has described the Federal Government’s “Hire from Nigeria” campaign as more than a communication initiative, saying it represents a major national economic proposition.

Oduwole made the remarks at a press conference to unveil the campaign, which is aimed at positioning Nigerians as globally competitive professionals and encouraging employers to source talent from the country.

According to the minister, hiring Nigerian talent should not be viewed as an act of goodwill but as a commercially sound decision capable of delivering skills, innovation, competitiveness and value to businesses.

“Hiring from Nigeria is therefore much more than a communication campaign. It is a National Economic Proposition. Hiring from Nigeria is not an act of goodwill. It is a sound commercial decision that delivers capability, innovation, competitiveness, and value.”

Government Targets 25,000 Nigerians for Global Competitiveness

As part of the initiative, the government is set to train about 25,000 Nigerians in key areas aimed at equipping them with the skills required to compete effectively in the global labour market.

The campaign is also expected to encourage Nigerians with relevant skills to work within the country while creating opportunities for them to provide services to local and international employers.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the government is currently training more than 200,000 Nigerians across about 1,000 centres nationwide.

Alausa said the training programme is largely practical, with approximately 80 per cent of the curriculum focused on hands-on training and 20 per cent dedicated to theoretical learning.

He added that the Federal Government is collaborating with relevant ministries and the Digital Technology Academy to train more than 25,000 Nigerians in six core areas under the “Hire from Nigeria” initiative.

The government said the programme is designed to strengthen the country’s human capital, improve the employability of Nigerian youths and position the nation’s workforce to take advantage of opportunities in the global digital economy.

The “Hire from Nigeria” campaign is expected to deepen efforts to develop a skilled workforce while promoting Nigeria as a destination for quality and competitive talent.
