The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of Freedom Park, Lagos Island, for scheduled renovation and maintenance works.
According to a statement on Monday by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the park will be closed from Monday, 5th to Sunday, 11th October, 2026.
The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the closure is to allow for scheduled maintenance, clean-up,and upgrade works at the historic facility.
She explained that the exercise is aimed at enhancing visitor experience and preserving the cultural and historical value of Freedom Park, which is one of Lagos’ leading arts and recreation hubs.
Mrs. Oyekan-Ismaila added that the park will be reopened to the public immediately after the renovation exercise is completed.
The Ministry apologized for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause members of the public and assured that the intervention will ensure Freedom Park remains safe, clean and enjoyable for residents and tourists.
