Lagos Withdraws Licenses of Six Waste Operators
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has withdrawn the operating licenses of six Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators over poor performance and failure to meet service standards.
LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed that the action followed a comprehensive operational review, and the affected operators were unable to meet required service standards, requiring the withdrawal in the interest of public health and environmental sustainability.

The authority said the move is part of a bigger plan to make waste collection better, ensure operators are accountable, and keep up with Lagos rapid growth. As part of this, routes in fast-growing areas are being rearranged, and more operators will be added where one operator can no longer operate.
Gbadegesin urged residents in the affected wards to cooperate with newly assigned operators and to patronize only LAWMA-accredited PSP operators, and emphasized on the agency’s commitment to continuous monitoring and enforcement to achieve a cleaner Lagos.
