The Lagos State Government has commenced clearance operations at Maiyegun-Lekki Beach along the Lekki-Epe Expressway as part of efforts to protect the state’s waterfronts and coastal environment.
Commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab said enforcement and sanitation teams were on ground to ensure compliance and effective execution.
Wahab stated that the operation forms part of a broader commitment to reclaim beaches, waterfronts, and coastal corridors from illegal structures, shanties, and other environmental violations considered harmful to public safety and urban development.
He described the Maiyegun-Lekki corridor as a strategic coastal stretch that must be protected from activities capable of degrading the environment or creating security concerns.
Officials further stressed that maintaining a cleaner and more organised coastal environment remains essential to the long-term vision for Lagos as a modern and sustainable city.
The state government reiterated its commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and preserving public spaces for future generations under its #CleanerLagos and #GreaterLagos initiatives.
