The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that another building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, described the reports as false and misleading.
He said the agency immediately deployed emergency response personnel to the reported location after receiving information about the alleged incident.
According to him, a thorough assessment of the area found no evidence of another building collapse.
“Following the receipt of the information, the Agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location. After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found,” the statement said.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents to verify information before sharing it, warning that false emergency reports could divert critical resources and delay responses to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk.
He thanked residents for remaining vigilant and encouraged members of the public to continue reporting emergencies through the appropriate channels, allowing first responders to verify incidents before such information is widely circulated.
The LASEMA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt, coordinated and professional emergency response.
The clarification follows the recent collapse of a two-storey building near Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, which claimed nine lives and left 27 others injured. The incident prompted a multi-agency rescue operation that lasted two days before all victims trapped beneath the rubble were recovered.
