There are indications that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde may soon unveil former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Multiple sources familiar with the development disclosed that the governor has also concluded plans to adopt the Action Democratic Party as the new political platform for his loyalists, supporters, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking elective offices ahead of the polls.
However, some insiders hinted that discussions are still ongoing around the possibility of using the National Democratic Party, suggesting that consultations within the governor’s camp may not have been fully concluded.
According to party stakeholders and individuals within the governor’s inner circle, key political figures across various levels were informed of the decision surrounding Adekanmbi on Wednesday.
One of the sources reportedly confirmed the move, saying, “We are going to the ADP, and Bimbo Adekanmbi shall be our candidate.”
Despite the growing speculation, several political associates of the governor declined to speak openly on the matter, insisting that Makinde himself should make any formal announcement regarding both the preferred candidate and the proposed political platform.
