The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Lagos State, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which nullified the rustication of student activists at the University of Ibadan.
In a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Ridwan Ajayi; secretary, Kareem Mumini; and Public Relations Officer, Aloba Ahmod, the association described the ruling as a victory for students’ rights and freedom of expression.
The court had set aside the suspension of Ayodele Aduwo and Mide Gbadegesin, while also addressing the alleged victimisation of Nice Linus, who participated in a protest against fee increases.
NANS called on the university management to immediately comply with the judgment by reinstating the affected students and issuing a public apology.
The student body criticised what it described as the use of institutional resources to target activists, urging authorities to prioritise the welfare of students and staff instead.
It also called for broader reforms in the education sector, including increased funding in line with recommendations by UNESCO, reversal of fee hikes, and the introduction of a cost of learning allowance for students nationwide.
The group further urged student bodies across the country to mobilise for sustained advocacy on improved funding and policies that support access to education.
