The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi have denied claims that they are behind a move to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Seyi Makinde.
The allegations gained traction on Tuesday after members of the Oyo State House of Assembly issued separate statements distancing themselves from any such plan.
At the centre of the controversy is the Speaker of the Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, who was reportedly linked to discussions involving both the Olubadan and Ajimobi’s widow.
Earlier, the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, had claimed in a statement that the Speaker was invited by the monarch and Mrs Ajimobi.
According to the account, Ogundoyin was allegedly advised on his governorship ambition and offered support, including assistance in securing a House of Representatives ticket under the All Progressives Congress, along with funds for the election.
The Speaker, however, was said to have declined the offer.
Oyekola further alleged that Ogundoyin also met with Mrs Ajimobi on a similar matter, where he was reportedly offered money but refused to accept it.
Despite these claims, both Ladoja and Ajimobi’s widow have rejected any involvement in an impeachment plot, as political tension continues to build in the state.
