The rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State are expected to reunite with their families today, Monday, following a 48-hour medical evaluation by military authorities.
The victims regained their freedom last Friday after spending 56 days in captivity. Since their rescue, they have been undergoing comprehensive medical treatment and psychosocial support at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services Headquarters, Odogbo Barracks, in Ibadan.
The military is scheduled to formally hand over the rescued individuals to the Oyo State Government today, following the conclusion of their clinical observation.
During a visit to the victims on Saturday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized that the 48-hour observation window was critical to ensuring their physical and psychological well-being before reintegration.
> “Our plan right now is to watch them over the next 48 hours,” Governor Makinde stated. “So by Monday, we think an assessment will be done, and maybe there’ll be a formal transfer from the military to the state, and then we can manage the process from that point forward.”

The Governor also revealed that the state government has already initiated logistical arrangements to facilitate immediate family reunions, noting the emotional urgency of the situation.
“We are putting logistics together to at least bring the family members to come and see them,” Makinde added. “There’s a small girl in there who basically has been asking, ‘Where’s my mom? Where’s my mom?’ So, at least we want the mom to be able to come and then see her.”
The formal handover today marks the end of a nearly two-month ordeal for the students and teachers, as state officials prepare to take over their long-term rehabilitation and welfare.
