Popular Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Davido, alongside his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Thursday. A 16-second video circulating on social media showed the singer engaging Wike in a light conversation about the outcome of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
Reacting to the video in a post on his X handle, Sowore described Davido and other political figures as “political hustlers,” questioning why the singer was “genuflecting” before Wike shortly after the Osun election, which he said was marred by violence and loss of lives.
Sowore accused political actors of deceiving the public and concealing their shared interests despite public disagreements, insults and displays of outrage. He said political differences often disappear when the interests of those involved converge.
His reaction comes amid reports that supporters of both the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party were killed before and during the governorship election held in Osun State on Saturday.
Nigerian political hustlers will deceive the public, and the gullible will swallow the deception whole.
