The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has urged residents to embrace constructive engagement, saying misinformation, false narratives and destructive criticism do not contribute to meaningful progress.

Speaking during a social media session, Wahab assured Lagos residents that feedback from the public would be carefully reviewed and acted upon where necessary.

He said sustainable development can only be achieved through shared responsibility, constructive engagement and genuine patriotism, urging residents to partner with the government in building a cleaner, safer and more resilient Lagos.

However, a former Lagos State governorship aspirant and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, criticised the state government’s handling of waste management.

Rhodes-Vivour accused the government of negligence and of shifting responsibility for environmental sanitation to residents.

According to him, the state’s waste management policy has failed, arguing that the government lacks an effective strategy to address the growing waste disposal challenges across Lagos.

The contrasting positions come amid ongoing public discussions over environmental sanitation and waste management in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
