The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has cautioned political actors in Oyo State against actions it described as disrespectful to the revered stool of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, the council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, warned that any attempt to undermine the traditional institution would attract serious consequences.

The statement, released by the council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, comes amid concerns over what the group described as rising reckless utterances and conduct by some politicians in the state.

Ajewole said certain actions by political figures had crossed acceptable boundaries and now pose a threat to the dignity and sanctity of traditional institutions in Ibadanland.

“The stool is sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with the highest respect at all times. Any attempt to denigrate the revered stool will be met with severe consequences,” the statement read.

The CCII emphasised that it would not stand by while the Olubadan throne is subjected to what it termed political manipulation or disrespect, stressing the need for all stakeholders to uphold cultural values and preserve the integrity of traditional leadership.
