The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos State, Femi Olaniyi Ferrari, has dismissed claims that the party refused to join the ongoing opposition coalition because it is allegedly working in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview on Adamimogo FM, Ferrari described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that the SDP remains committed to protecting the interests and welfare of the people while maintaining its independence ahead of future elections.
He stated that although several opposition parties are currently exploring alliances and coalitions to strengthen their political chances, the SDP has chosen to remain focused on its core principles rather than engage in constant political alignments and defections.
According to him, the party believes in building strong grassroots support and sustaining direct connection with the masses instead of relying solely on political mergers.
Ferrari also addressed concerns that the party could face political disadvantages by standing alone, noting that the SDP is not completely opposed to future partnerships but would be cautious and selective in choosing any alliance.
He emphasized that any collaboration must align with the ideology and vision of the party.
The Lagos SDP chairman further noted that the party’s political philosophy is rooted in the ideals of the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola and the 1993 democratic movement, which he said differs significantly from the approach of many other political parties in the country.
