The Nigerian Railway Corporation has expressed concern over renewed attacks on railway facilities in Plateau and Bauchi states with the warning that continued destruction of rail infrastructure will undermine public safety, economic activities and national security.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, described the incidents as a threat to critical national assets and warned that the acts could undermine ongoing investments in the railway sector.
According to the NRC, one of the recent incidents occurred on May 21, 2026, when a truck allegedly transporting vandalised railway materials became trapped between Kuru and Science School in Kuru, Plateau State.
The corporation said the development exposed what it described as the dangerous operations of criminal groups involved in the destruction and illegal movement of railway components.
The NRC also disclosed another incident along the railway corridor in Zango, Bauchi State, between Kilometer 878 and 889, where railway sleepers were reportedly removed from both sides of a level crossing, leaving only disconnected sections of rail tracks.
It warned that such activities could have severe consequences, including train derailments, interruption of rail services, loss of lives and destruction of public investments running into billions of naira.
