The Lagos State chapter of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN) has assured residents that its officers remain actively engaged in monitoring communities across the state, particularly during the rainy season when environmental health risks are heightened.
Speaking during an interview on Adamimogo FM Lagos, the State Security Officer of EHOAN, San. Arole Adeshola, said environmental health officers regularly patrol various communities to identify and address practices that could pose threats to public health.
He encouraged residents to report suspicious or unhealthy activities, stressing that public cooperation is vital to maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Responding to concerns that officers are rarely visible in some areas, Adeshola explained that the association continues to operate actively despite manpower challenges resulting from the rapid growth of residential communities and housing developments across the state.
He also dismissed allegations that environmental health officers collect taxes from traders, clarifying that their duties are limited to inspecting edible goods and ensuring compliance with public health standards.
Adeshola reiterated the association’s opposition to extortion and urged residents to report any officer found demanding illegal payments.
