President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the nomination of Dr. Zainab Marwa to the Senate for confirmation as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
The request was conveyed in a letter read on the Senate floor on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the President, the nomination was made in accordance with Section 2 of the NDDC Establishment Act and is intended to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former North-East representative, Abdulrazak Namdas.
Tinubu explained that Namdas stepped down from the board on March 30, 2026, to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State.
In the letter, the President urged lawmakers to consider and approve Marwa’s nomination to ensure the North-East remains fully represented on the commission’s governing board.
Following the presentation of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for screening and further legislative consideration, directing the committee to submit its report within one to two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Senate also announced plans to establish a committee to review bills transmitted from the House of Representatives for concurrence, a move aimed at enhancing legislative coordination between the two chambers.
The proposed committee is expected to be chaired by Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central.
